Fix for Windows Update Issue (KB5066835)

Problem: Windows Update KB5066835 is preventing FocalPoint from working.

Solution: Remove the update and pause Windows updates for 5 weeks.

Time Required: 10-15 minutes + computer restart


Before You Begin

You will need:

  • Administrator access to your computer
  • 10-15 minutes of time
  • To restart your computer

⚠️ Important:

  • Save all your work before starting
  • Close all programs
  • Follow each step in order

STEP 1: Remove KB5066835

1. Open Windows Settings

  • Click the Start button (Windows logo in bottom-left corner)
  • Click Settings (gear icon ⚙️)

Or press Windows Key + I on your keyboard

2. Go to Windows Update

  • In the left menu, click "Windows Update"

3. Open Update History

  • Click "Update history"
  • You'll see a list of recent updates

4. Open Uninstall Updates

  • Scroll down
  • Click "Uninstall updates"
  • A new window opens

5. Find KB5066835

Look for:

  • Name: Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5066835)
  • Date: October 14 or October 15, 2025
  • Type: Update

Tip: The list is sorted by date. Look at the top (most recent).

6. Uninstall It

  1. Click once on KB5066835 (it will highlight)
  2. Click "Uninstall" button at the top
  3. Click "Yes" to confirm
  4. Wait patiently (5-10 minutes)
    • You may see a progress bar
    • Don't close windows or turn off computer
  5. When done, the window may close automatically

KB5066835 is now removed

⚠️ DO NOT RESTART YET - Continue immediately to Step 2


STEP 2: Pause Windows Updates

This stops KB5066835 from coming back for 5 weeks.

1. Go Back to Windows Update

  • Close the "Uninstall updates" window if still open
  • You should be back at Settings
  • If not: Windows Key + I → Windows Update

2. Pause Updates

  • Look for "Pause updates" button
  • Click "Pause updates"

3. Select Duration

  • A dropdown menu appears
  • Click "Pause for 5 weeks"

4. Confirm It's Paused

You should see:

  • A message saying "Updates paused"
  • A date showing when updates will resume (5 weeks from today)

Updates are now paused

What this means:

  • KB5066835 cannot reinstall for 5 weeks
  • Other Windows updates also won't install during this time
  • This is temporary - we'll send you an email before the 5 weeks are up

STEP 3: Restart Your Computer

Now you can safely restart:
